Training Programme on Bee Keeping & Management (Apiculture)

About the training

Honeybees are crucial pollinators that contribute directly to agricultural productivity and biodiversity conservation. Honey is a nutrient-rich natural food with strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Apiculture, the science of raising or maintaining colonies of bees and their hives, is a multifaceted discipline that offers ecological, economic, and social benefits (Programme brochure).

Establishing an apiculture project within the University campus will serve as a platform for:

  • Academic research in entomology, environmental sciences, plant sciences, biotechnology etc.
  • Sustainable development through biodiversity enhancement,
  • Livelihood promotion by equipping students and surrounding communities with beekeeping skills.
  • Entrepreneurship and sustainable practices. experiential learning, skill development and integration of vocational practices into higher education (NEP, 2020).

About the Trainer

Dr. Sajan Jose K, a retired Professor of Zoology, St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom, Idukki from Kerala known as the “Honey Man of Kerala” for his work in apiculture. He is the founder of Regal Bee Gardens and has dedicated himself to the scientific study and farming of honey bees, particularly stingless “dammer” bees, which he also raises for their medicinal honey. He has published research, authored books, and conducts training on bee farming and stingless bee culture.
